We’re REALTORS® and we add value, March 6, 2014
REALTORS® face challenges these days - from online FSBO websites to high home prices - which in some parts of the country are making homes so unaffordable that buyers sit on the fence, waiting – for prices to drop or new government initiatives to be announced.
The solution? There’s always benefit in letting home buyers know how much we care about them.
Beyond our education, training, skill level and experience, REALTORS® understand exactly what makes home buying more affordable because we listen to our clients and they tell us what they need.
What’s most important is that we’re willing to volunteer countless hours to get it.
Take the case of the federal government’s Home Buyers’ Plan (RRSPs for downpayments). It was a CREA initiative which many of us spent years lobbying for. The government introduced the program because we were relentless in asking for it. Initially it allowed individuals to withdraw up to $20,000 from their RRSP (couples could withdraw up to $40,000) for a downpayment on a home.
In the past few years, we once again lobbied to raise the threshold, and once again we were successful. Now individuals can withdraw up to $25,000 (couples up to $50,000) from their RRSP to use as a downpayment on a home. Now that’s value.
